What is a White Card in QLD?

A White Card is the commonly used name for a general construction induction training card. Your approved registered training organisation (RTO) issues it after you successfully complete the required training and assessment.

The current nationally recognised unit is CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.

The card demonstrates that you have learned basic construction safety principles. It does not qualify you to perform a trade or replace licences needed for particular work, such as operating certain machinery.

You must also complete any workplace or site-specific induction required for the project.

Who needs a White Card in Queensland?

People who carry out construction work need general construction induction training. This includes workers such as:

  • Labourers and apprentices.
  • Builders, carpenters, electricians and plumbers.
  • Contractors and subcontractors.
  • Supervisors involved in construction work.
  • Workers undertaking construction-related installation, renovation or demolition.

The requirement depends on your duties, rather than simply your job title. For example, someone installing equipment during a building project may need a White Card even if construction is not their usual industry.

Visitors who are not carrying out construction work may have different entry requirements. Always check the site’s induction and supervision rules before visiting.
