• What is a White Card course in New South Wales?

  In New South Wales, the White Card course must be completed face-to-face or in a virtual live classroom with an approved trainer. It cannot be completed online or self-paced. After successfully finishing the course, participants receive a SafeWork NSW White Card, which is a government-issued construction induction card required to legally work on any construction site in NSW.

  Although it’s issued in NSW, your White Card is valid across Australia, so you don’t need to complete the course again if you move interstate.

• How long is the NSW White Card valid for?

  Your White Card doesn’t have an expiry date, but if you haven’t worked on a construction site for 2 or more years, it’s considered invalid. You’ll need to redo the White Card course to get a valid card again.

• What is the difference between a White Card and a Green Card in Australia?

  Green Cards were used before 2004, when NSW updated its construction induction system. If you have one, it’s important to know that green cards issued before 29 March 2004 are no longer valid, in NSW or any other state or territory. You’ll need to complete the current CPCWHS1001 course to get a valid White Card.

• What is the 100 points of ID I need to bring with me?

  If you are doing the White Card in NSW you are required to provide 100 points of ID. All documents must be original and issued in Australia. (Your passport may be from overseas.) Digital licences (e.g. Service NSW app) are accepted. If you are new to the country (been here less than 6 weeks) or a high school student, please scroll down as you are exempt from the 100 points

  ImmiCards CAN NOT be used unless they are approved by SafeWork NSW directly. Please email us 48 hours in advance of your course if you seek approval to use an ImmiCard.

   

  Note: You must include at least one photo ID (e.g. passport, driver’s licence, photo card) your address and signature across the IDs used.

  Who’s Exempt from 100-Point ID?

  You do not need to present 100 points of ID if you fall into any of these categories:

  • New arrivals (in Australia for less than six weeks)

  • Current high school students

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander

  Exemptions in Detail

  1. New Arrivals (Less Than 6 Weeks)

  Bring:

  • Passport or visa

  • Bank card or driver’s licence from your home country

  2. Current High School Students

  Bring either:

  • Your school ID

  • One of: driver’s licence, birth certificate, passport, or citizenship certificate with evidence you are in school. You must show the trainer you are still enrolled. This could be by logging in to your school portal. If you are unable to provide evidence you are in school, you need to provide 100 points.

  3. Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Applicants

  If you lack sufficient ID, provide two official references from recognised agencies.

• Who can enrol in a White Card course in NSW?

  Anyone aged 14 years or older can enrol in White Card training in New South Wales.

  There are no formal qualifications required.

  However, participants must have a basic level of English reading, writing, and verbal communication to understand safety concepts and complete assessment tasks.

  White Card training is suitable for school leavers, job seekers, tradespeople, apprentices, and anyone preparing to enter the construction industry or other high-risk work environments.

• Can international students or visa holders get a NSW White Card?

  Yes. International students and temporary visa holders, including those on Student, Working Holiday, or Skilled Work visas, are eligible to complete White Card training in NSW.

  You’ll need to provide valid photo ID and meet SafeWork NSW’s 100 points of identification requirement (listed above).

  Once issued, your White Card is valid throughout Australia.

• Is White Card training course mandatory in NSW?

  Yes. White Card training is legally required under SafeWork NSW regulations for anyone who carries out construction work or needs to access an operational construction site.

  This includes labourers, apprentices, tradies, site supervisors, engineers, delivery drivers, and even office staff who visit live construction zones.

  Without a valid White Card, you cannot legally enter or work on these sites in NSW.

• Can I complete my White Card training online in NSW?

  Yes. But it is in a live virtual classroom. It is not possible to do the white card online at your own pace. This is only possible in Tasmania and Western Australia.

  We offer online instructor-led White Card training in NSW, which is fully approved by SafeWork NSW.

  This delivery method involves a live virtual classroom where you interact with your trainer in real time.

  You’ll complete the same accredited course as in-person participants, just from the comfort of your own home or workplace.

  A working webcam, microphone, and reliable internet connection are required as well as the 4 items of PPE.

  Only people that require no support are eligible to do the course this way. If you feel you may require support in the class, you should attend one of our 12 face to face locations across NSW.

• How do I book a White Card course in NSW?

  Pick your location and a date that works for you. Click enrol, fill in your details, and pay. You’ll get a confirmation email with your course date, venue, and what to bring. Show up with your ID and complete the course. Make sure you’ve got your USI (Unique Student Identifier) ready before you start.

  Need a USI? Go to usi.gov.au and click “Get a USI”.

  Can’t remember it? Use the “Find my USI“ tool on the same site.

  They are easy to get, it only takes a few minutes. Once you get one, it’s yours for life and you don’t need to get one again.

• Can I get RPL for this course?

  We do not offer RPL for any white card courses in Australia due to state regulations. You must attend the white card course to get a white card.

• Language, Literacy and Numeracy Requirements

  You don’t need to be fluent in English to do this White Card course in NSW. A basic level is fine as long as you can follow along, understand safety instructions, and communicate with your trainer.

  That means being able to read simple signs and short texts, write basic answers on forms, and follow verbal instructions during the session. A bit of basic numeracy helps too, like reading times or simple measurements.

  If English is your second language, that’s completely fine. Just make sure you’re comfortable enough to participate and take in the safety content.
