A Simple Understanding of the White Card Sydney
Don’t be mislead. There’s only ONE white card course, done in your state of residence. Laborers, tradespeople, engineers, truck drivers, and even those new to the industry all take the same course. Once you complete it, your white card is recognised across Australia, so there’s no need to retake the White Card course if you relocate. Whether you’re a citizen or hold any visa type, you can enrol in the White Card Course in Sydney.
In NSW, three specific conditions apply. See below:
- 14 years of age or older
In New South Wales you must be 14 years of age or older to register and complete training for the White Card course.
- Attain a USI number
A USI number is easy to get. It is required if you do a course in Australia regardless of age or status. Get your USI number HERE (we can assist with helping you attain your USI after you book your course).
- Must bring 100 points of ID
In NSW it is essential you meet the SafeWork NSW ID requirements. Read about the ID requirements HERE

Exemptions:
Exemption One: Arrived in Australia Less Than 6 Weeks Ago
If you have arrived in Australia within the past six weeks, you can use your passport or visa along with a bank card or driver’s license from your home country. For example, you could bring a passport and a bank card from your country of origin, and that would fulfill the ID requirements. If you don’t have a passport, you could use your visa and a bank card from your home country.
Exemption Two: Still in High School
If you are currently enrolled in high school, you can use your school ID as identification. If you don’t have a school ID, you can choose from the following options: driver’s license, birth certificate, passport, or citizenship certificate. You only need one thing.
Exemption Three: Identify as Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander
If you identify as Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander and do not have enough ID to meet the 100 points requirement, you can present two official references from relevant agencies. We have 10 other locations around Sydney and NSW. You can view them all and see all the dates in one place on the NSW white card page.
If you are looking for an after-hours course, we run them in Sydney city only a 5-minute walk from Central Station.
It is essential to bring the correct ID requirements with you. This is one of the most important parts of the class. Please see our requirements sections, if you are unsure about what is needed and ensure you have the necessary ID for the course. If you didn’t provide your USI during enrolment, you will also need to bring that with you.
Apart from that, just bring yourself and a good attitude, and you are sure to leave with a white card, ready to work in construction. You only need to wear normal comfortable clothes and shoes; there’s no requirement to wear or bring any construction clothing or PPE to the class. Everything you need will be provided at the venue for use on the day.
The venue is easy to find. We are a shop on the ground floor facing the street. You will see the entrance to the block of flats. If you look three shops up from the entrance to the block of flats, you will see our shop. There is a lot of signage in the window.
It is highly recommended that you take the train to the venue. Being so close to Central Station, it is the best option. If you must drive, be warned that parking around Surry Hills is very challenging and has 2-hour time limits. If you do decide to drive, you will be given multiple breaks throughout the day when you can move your car if needed.
