What is a White Card in Victoria?

A White Card, officially known as a construction induction card, is evidence that a person has completed the general construction safety training required to work on construction sites in Victoria.

The training helps workers recognise common workplace hazards, understand their health and safety responsibilities and take appropriate steps to reduce risks.

In Victoria, White Cards are issued by WorkSafe Victoria after successful completion of the nationally recognised unit CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry through an approved training provider.

A valid White Card is recognised throughout Australia, meaning you generally won’t need to repeat the training simply because you move interstate.

  • Demolition workers.

White Card requirements depend on the nature of the work being performed, rather than simply a person’s job title, and employers must also ensure workers complete any additional workplace or site-specific inductions required before commencing work.
