Choose Your State to Book a White Card Course
You are required to undertake your White Card training in the state where you currently reside. However, once issued the White Card is nationally recognised and remains valid if you relocate to another state — there is no need to retake the course.
The White Card does not expire. The only circumstance requiring you to retake the course is if you have not worked on a construction site for more than two consecutive years.
For further details, select your state below. Each state page contains specific information relevant to your location and training requirements.
Government Approved Registered Training Organisation
Our White Card training and certification is approved by all relevant government bodies in Australia, including SafeWork NSW, WorkSafe QLD, WorkSafe VIC, WorkSafe WA, SafeWork SA, and WorkSafe Tasmania.
What is a White Card?
Before stepping onto any construction site in Australia, you’re legally required to hold a White Card. This card proves you’ve completed official construction induction training — covering the safety standards, legal responsibilities, and site protocols relevant to your state and the wider industry.
You’ll need to complete the White Card training in the state where you currently live. However, once you’ve got it, your White Card is valid Australia-wide. So even if you relocate, there’s no need to do the course again.
There’s only one White Card course — it’s the same for everyone. Whether you’re completely new to construction or have decades of experience, the course content doesn’t change. Your job title doesn’t matter either — from labourers to site supervisors, everyone completes the same training.
Once you’re certified, your White Card doesn’t expire. The only time you’ll need to retake the course is if you’ve been out of the industry and away from construction sites for more than two years straight. In that case, you’ll need a refresher to re-qualify.

Frequently Asked Questions
What kinds of jobs can I get with a White Card?
A White Card is not just for tradies and construction workers. A White Card is required for any role that involves entering a construction zone — even occasionally. This includes general labourers, traffic controllers, removalists, cleaners, delivery drivers, landscapers, security guards, forklift operators, safety officers, and more. You’ll also see it required in mining, rail, infrastructure, warehousing, and large event setups.
Will having a White Card help me get a job?
Absolutely. Most construction-related job ads list the White Card as essential. Getting yours shows employers you’re ready to start immediately and understand safety requirements — even if you have no prior experience.
How fast can I start working after getting a White Card?
If you get your White Card with National White Card Courses, you’ll receive your statement of attainment on the same day you complete the White Card course. That means you can apply for jobs and start working immediately — no waiting around.
Can the White Card help me switch careers or get back into work?
Definitely. It’s a popular pathway for people changing careers, re-entering the workforce, or starting fresh after school. It opens the door to entry-level roles that often provide on-the-job training.
Do I need a White Card even if I’m not “on the tools”?
Yes. Roles like site administration, safety observing, deliveries, or supervising also require you to hold a White Card if you’re entering active construction zones — even if you’re not doing manual labour.
Is a White Card useful outside of construction?
Absolutely. You’ll find it listed in roles across logistics, landscaping, events, warehousing, property maintenance, telecommunications, and even film production — basically, any job that might involve stepping onto a site during active work.
Can I do the White Card on a Student Visa?
Yes, you can complete the course on a student visa, or any other visa while in Australia. As long as you’re legally in the country, you’re eligible to attend the course and receive your White Card.
What do I need to bring to a white card course?
To attend your White Card course, you’ll need to bring valid, state-recognised identification. Each state has specific ID requirements, so be sure to check the course details for your location before attending.
There’s nothing else you need to prepare — all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), writing materials, and paperwork will be provided for you on the day.
You’re welcome to bring your own lunch, or take advantage of nearby shops and cafés during the scheduled breaks.
