What is a White Card in the ACT?
A White Card is evidence that you have completed general construction induction training. The national unit, CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, introduces common site hazards, safety responsibilities, risk controls and personal protective equipment.
The course is a starting point for construction safety. You still need workplace-specific induction and any additional training required for your role.

How do you get a White Card in the ACT?
Complete the six-hour construction induction course through an RTO and receive your Statement of Attainment. Apply to Access Canberra for your card within 60 days. Use your own ACT Digital Account, provide the required documents and pay the application fee.

Validity and replacement White Cards
Access Canberra states that an ACT White Card remains valid indefinitely unless cancelled. If your card is lost or damaged, use your ACT Digital Account to request a replacement. Check the requirements where you will work, particularly when moving interstate.

Can you do White Card training online in the ACT?
This NWCC course is face-to-face in Canberra. Contact us for classroom availability. Applying for your card online through Access Canberra is a separate step after training; an online card application is not an online White Card course.

Using your White Card interstate
A valid White Card is recognised across Australia. Moving interstate does not usually mean repeating general construction induction training. Check the requirements in the place where you will work and complete the site induction and any task-specific training your employer requires.

Frequently Asked Questions
What identification and equipment do I need?
For your ACT White Card application, you’ll need an ACT Digital Account with verified identity documents, along with your Statement of Attainment. You also need your USI.
Do I need a USI?
A Unique Student Identifier links your nationally recognised training records. Have your USI ready and ensure your enrolment name matches your identification. If you need help finding or creating one, visit the official USI website.
Are online White Card courses allowed in the ACT?
Yes. ACT White Card training can be completed through a live, trainer-led online class, such as Zoom. The trainer must be able to observe the required practical assessment in real time. Self-paced-only training is not accepted as a complete ACT White Card course.
National White Card Courses (NWCC) only offers face-to-face courses in the ACT.
How do I obtain my ACT White Card after training?
After successfully completing CPCWHS1001, you’ll receive a Statement of Attainment. You then have 60 days to apply for your White Card through Access Canberra using your ACT Digital Account.
Once approved, Access Canberra posts the card to you. The application can take up to six weeks to assess.
Are ACT White Cards valid in other states?
Yes. An ACT White Card is recognised across Australia, so you do not need to complete the course again when working in another state or territory.
You may still need to complete a site-specific induction or other training required by the workplace you are entering.
Is White Card training mandatory in the ACT?
Yes. Anyone working in construction in the ACT must have their White Card certificate before starting work.
Valid White Cards issued in other Australian states and territories are also recognised in the ACT.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy Requirements
You don’t need to be fluent in English to join a face-to-face White Card course in the ACT. A basic level is fine as long as you can follow along, understand safety instructions, and communicate with your trainer.
That means being able to read simple signs and short texts, write basic answers on forms, and follow verbal instructions during the session. A bit of basic numeracy helps too, like reading times or simple measurements.
If English is your second language, that’s completely fine. Just make sure you’re comfortable enough to participate and take in the safety content.
If you require LLN assistance, please let us know before booking. We may be able to offer support, make reasonable adjustments, or recommend alternative options.
