SA White Card Course Information

Who can enrol in a White Card course in SA?
Anyone aged 14 years or older can enrol in White Card training in SA.
There are no formal qualifications required.
However, participants must have a basic level of English reading, writing, and verbal communication to understand safety concepts and complete assessment tasks.
White Card training is suitable for school leavers, job seekers, tradespeople, apprentices, and anyone preparing to enter the construction industry or other high-risk work environments.
Can international students or visa holders get a SA White Card?
Yes. International students and temporary visa holders — including those on Student, Working Holiday, or Skilled Work visas — are eligible to complete White Card training in SA.
You’ll need to provide valid photo ID and meet SafeWork SA’s identification requirement.
Once issued, your White Card is valid throughout Australia.
Is White Card training mandatory in SA?
Yes. White Card training is legally required under SafeWork SA regulations for anyone who carries out construction work or needs to access an operational construction site.This includes labourers, apprentices, tradies, site supervisors, engineers, delivery drivers, and even office staff who visit live construction zones.Without a valid White Card, you cannot legally enter or work on these sites in SA.Can I complete my White Card training online in SA?
No, in South Australia you can not do the class online
In SA we offer can offer virtual zoom online instructor-led White Card training, which is fully approved by SafeWork SA.
This delivery method involves a live virtual classroom where you interact with your trainer in real time.
You’ll complete the same accredited course as in-person participants — just from the comfort of your own home or workplace.
A working webcam, microphone, and reliable internet connection are required as well as the 4 items of PPE.
Only people that require no support are eligible to do the course this way. If you feel you may require support in the class, you should attend one of our 12 face to face locations across SA.

Before you start, make sure you have your USI (Unique Student Identifier) ready.
Need a USI? Go to usi.gov.au and click “Get a USI”.
Can’t remember it? Use the “Find my USI“ tool on the same site.
They are easy to get, it only takes a few minutes. Once you get one its yours for life and you don’t need to get one again.
Can I get RPL for this course?
We do not offer RPL for any white card courses in Australia due to state regulations. You must attend the white card course to get a white card.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy Requirements
To successfully complete the White Card course (CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry), all students must have a basic level of English language, literacy and numeracy. This ensures you can understand safety information and participate safely in the training.
You must be able to:
Read and understand simple safety signs, instructions, and short texts
Write basic information, such as completing forms and short written answers
Communicate clearly in English with the trainer and other participants
Follow verbal instructions during activities and assessments
